Churafee, the warrior of the Ratwick, leads the conversation as they march, interacting with the eccentric and skeletal-handed companion Iscale, who reveals that he is a dracomorph with a history of sea voyages. The travelers encounter Aridelia, who struggles with severe seasickness from their strange journey, and a bearded old man named Sargan, who nearly chokes on a lozenge before receiving help. Tensions and strange encounters mount as the diverse companions press onward through the dark and labyrinthine fortress.
